When you first meet someone, it may be difficult to start up a conversation. If you don’t have something thoroughly interesting to say to each other, chances are nothing further will happen beyond the first encounter. There are plenty of common conversation starting questions that get asked probably too much. If you have go-to questions, you’re probably not all that interesting to begin with.
Here are my top three deal breaking questions:
3) Where do you work? (What do you do there?)
2) Where are you from?
1) What’s your major? (What do you want to do with that?)
If these are one of the first questions you ask upon meeting me, I’ll probably not want to talk to you again. (Unless I’m networking and you are genuinely interested in my answer.)
Here’s a tip: Be more creative!
